i have took inspiration from this episode of friends (s4 ep12) where they go head to head in a trivia quiz for the apartment i like this idea as the have categories and a few questions on each section they also have two teams which has a balance and when filming the two fit in the middle of the shot quite well. this is an establishing shot of the set it shows what they are playing for and it is a lot different to what you would see in say a studio game show where there is big flashing lights. the set design is very homey and inviting and the set designer has made it to look lived in whereas i our set we have used what we had at hand and have gone with a Christmassy feel which i think gives a feel of comfort which i think is what we wanted. the director of friends have designed their set like this to target teens and above as it has something for everyone and a comedic factor. on the other had our target audience is for family's and young kids which can engage with the questions the show is also family friendly so you can all sit around to watch together whether its you and your kids or just by yourself
the camera flicks between a shot of these two and then the two girls and and a long wide shot of all of them on the sofa to show that when one team loses and when ones is happy.im going to use this in as friends is a sit com its made to be funny so maybe we can try to implement a funny element to our show if we end up doing a game show but if we are doing a panel show then were going to have to make it a lot more funnier to interest more. i have took inspiration from this as friends the comedy is very well portrayed.
we have ended up going with a game show this means that we have to focus a lot more on questions then comedy but if the panellist make funny jokes or even the host it might break the silence.
for example this is the studio for the chase it is a lot different to friends as its a planned game show with a host and contestants playing for a cash prize. there are also flashing lights, graphics, not actors but just you everyday individual and the host is well known making it more entertaining for the viewers see someone they know, usually the hosts are funny making jokes throughout the show keeping the live audience entertained which i think would work in our game show. we have taken the strobe sort of lights and have but them behind boards to give a glowing effect and we have table cloths to give it more of a finished look.
one image where the camera is an extreme long shot as we can see the host and contestants full length this shot brings your audience into the game aswell as the shot creates action knowing that they want all 4 contestants to go through to earn a bigger cash prize i want to do this in our game show to create tension between the 2 teams but the host in the middle to bring them both together, the shot of just the contestants is a mid shot and this shows the pannlists facial expressions it is a little more intement and and a feel that we get to see the thought process of them answering questions. when working on the camera i want to capture the pannlists and try to flick between the 2 if they answer a question i also thing to zoom out out into a mid shot so we can see the set and the backing but from time to time zoom in and make sure to stay in focus.
the close up of the host shows that he is incharge as well he is at a podium but he dose walk around and we wanted to do that in ours so we used the middle camera to track the host as he manouvers around it adds a bit more of a comidic side as well but we still wanted a touch of formality. then the high angle shot of the whole studio establishes where there are and what is going on as in the shot we can see the host, pannlists and the chase board where the eventually face the chaser in our game show we just had our contestants sat in there seat but maybe to add more to it we can incorparate someone to challenge them instead of a question and answer.
this if from the tv show golden balls and it is a game where 2 teams go head to head we used this in our show to have the idea of a rivally between the teams
i did some research to find out what were the top game shows in the uk that fit i our demographic. i feel like a lot of the uk watch at least one of these shows if not more so they are most likely to watch our show if it were to air on tv. looking at these shows it has helped us to get more of a steady idea of what kind of show we wanted. and most of these are family friendly so it would fit in and no look too out of place and also a lot of these shows do Christmas specials so us doing a Christmas themed show wouldn't be out of the ordinary
for Christmas specials for example the chase the chasers dressed up in different iconic Christmas outfits where as Bradly isn't i think this is to make the chasers standout some times Bradly has worn a festive jumper to keep the Christmas theme by the contestants they also decorate the panel board with garland.
with taking all of our ideas into consideration this was our main base for the set design . personally i think the mini Christmas trees get in the way of the contestants depending on which camera is on screen but it also allows the audience to know its not just a regular episode. i really like the tinsel on the table as it makes it more over the top like most game shows are. were also going to have gold tinsel on the white panels to make it (more festive in a way). i think that our idea will interest the audience with its music rounds and fun general knowledge
today we brainstormed ideas for our show some ideas and we have come up with the concept and the design of the set and we are going for a Christmassy, cosy feel which would draw in lots of family's with young children and would engage more of a following at home since this is a 'Christmas special' all of the other episodes would just be your normal sort of quiz show but since it is close to Christmas we are making it a Christmas theme as a lot of game shows do that to add something different to the show.
this is a rough sketch of our set design - camera one will track the host as they move around this is very commonly seen in game shows as they walk to each team camera two will be on "green team" and camera three will be on "red team" both two and three zooming in on both of the contestants on the allocated team.
in regards to the survey a lot of the participants were very excited to see the show and as well thing that the idea is really good. when asking if they would make any changes one participant said to add forfeits as much as i like that idea we only have a 10 minuet limit and I don't think with 3 question rounds plus intro and outro we would have time as in the studio (7/12) we had a full run through which was around 7 minuets, a lot of people said that they like the name i do as well its short and snappy and you can shorten it (TAI) before this name though it was originally called (no eye deer) as much as this was a good name we didn't think it worked with what we were trying to give off. with the ordering question most participants put the chase as their top favourite so maybe to acquire more viewers we might of had to take some ideas from that maybe for example so one to up against the contestants.
FINAL IDEA- a show where two teams go head to head in a three round quiz on songs, movies and everyone's favourite general knowledge and they are competing for a grad prize of £100,000 but on the 12th of December the show is releasing a Christmas special where every round is all Christmas related we are even making the contestants wear festive headwear and the host dressed in a full Santa suit.
IDEAS WE DIDNT GO WITH- we were going to ask questions based on the other team as we were inspired from friends, we also had an idea to add life lines like who whants to be a millionare, for example 50/50, phone a friend ect.
this was the first draft of our show that we had and from there we added more for example the christmas theme and christmas inspired questions we did still follow the main layout of song then movie then christmas round we did have some minor difficulties with the sound as we didnt know how to get the sound to play through into the studio and we solved that so that then allowed us to do the song round we wanted but if that idea failed we made a backup plan to do questions based on christmas songs for example (when did the song las christmas come out)
