Learning outcomes and selected ATL skills

Through your participation in service, you can become more confident, self-regulated learner (MYP: From principles into practice, p. 24).

These learning outcomes identify the substance of students’ self-reflection on service as action.  All of these learning outcomes are closely associated with IB learner profile attributes and ATL skills (see below)

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you'll learn what you are good at and what you need to improve. 


By doing this type of SA activity, you will gain more understanding of the skills, abilities and attitudes you have, and ones you need to work on in order to be an effective contributor to your community.

Everyone is different. Here is an opportunity for you to understand your own strengths and where you need to push yourself to get better.

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you have to work with others. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you will have to share roles and responsibilities with other students (or others involved). 


Learning to collaborate effectively is a valuable (life!) skill. There is no I in TEAM!

What does it mean?

Doing an activity for a long period of time, and not giving up if something is difficult. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you accept a part of the responsibility for dealing with possible difficulties that can arise over the course of participating. 


An activity where you persevere in action should last at last one term. 

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you try something that is new, and learn new skills. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you will challenge yourself by doing something new, something that you have never done before. 


Trying new things can push us out of our comfort zone, and we will learn more skills. Be a risk-taker!

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you come up with a project, investigate, develop it, plan it and problem solve when things go wrong. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you will develop leadership skills. 


This activity is well-suited for collaboration.

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you learn about global issues, different languages, cultures, religions and traditions. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you will learn about and engage with the world around you, your local and world communities.

What does it mean?

Doing an activity where you need to show an understanding between right and wrong. 

By doing this type of SA activity, you will reflect on the types of decisions you made during an activity, or being engaged in an activity that positively affects others.
