Musical Language

"Composers and performers use a common language of signs and symbols that enables them to express themselves in creative ways"

On this site you can find our unit's learning outcomes, projects and resources.

We are learning:

Reading and writing musical notation:
- 5 line stave
- Time signature
- Key signature
Instrumental techniques

We want to understand:

Function: Musical elements and their meaning.
Connection: Musical language is universal and helps people to connect regardless of time and place.
Perspective: Musical language is abstract and can have different interpretations.

To achieve this, we will need to use:

Research skills:
- Gather information
- Observe and draw conclusions
Communication skills:
- Interpret symbols and sounds
Thinking skills:
- Observe carefully and consider meanings
- Consider multiple alternatives
