Composers can use and manipulate musical elements to tell stories inspired by their surroundings.

We are learning:

- about musical instruments and how they can be used to express ideas.
- about musical elements: pitch, pulse, rhythm and words.

- Form - How to analyse a piece of music and its musical elements.
- Change - How to manipulate musical elements to create new music.
- Perspective - How composers write music inspired by their surroundings.

We will achieve this by using:
- Research skills: Using all senses to find and notice relevant details.
- Critical Thinking: Taking and ideas apart by separating them into component parts.
- Creative Thinking: Applying existing knowledge to design new products.
To start our unit we looked at how composers have used music to tell stories and describe specific ideas.

The main piece we will be working with is Peter and the Wolf, by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. Here you can find the video we watched in class and another version with different illustrations. Which one do you prefer?
