Accommodations for Medical Students
The required clerkship coordinators maintain the below resource for students. It is linked in the Clinical Scheduling Guide under Required Clerkships > Preparing for Your Clerkship.
Coordinators are asked to share one of the following statements with students when you give them information about their site:
Accessible Parking
If you have a State issued Disability Parking Permit (hang-tag or license plate) you may park in____________.
Or
Accessible Parking
If you have a State issued Disability Parking Permit (hang-tag or license plate) you may contact __________to confirm location of accessible parking for this site.
Students will receive accommodation letters from the DRC directly in the body of an email.
Students will then forward their accommodation letters to clerkship directors and coordinators. They receive the following instructions from the DRC:
Hi [student],
In a separate email you have received a copy of the accommodation letter with your accommodations. In order to implement these accommodations during clinical rotations, please follow the additional steps below:
For accommodations related to anything other than testing: Forward the letter to the clerkship director, clerkship coordinator, site director and/or site coordinator for each rotation.

For SHELF exam accommodations: Medexams@umn.edu is able to see your testing accommodations in the AIM portal; however they do not know your specific clerkship or exam schedule. Please email medexams@umn.edu at least 2 weeks prior to your SHELF exam to coordinate your accommodations.
For non-SHELF exam accommodations: When rotating through the following rotations, forward the letter to the course director and coordinator to implement testing accommodations on the non-SHELF exams: EMMD 7504, FMCH 7600, MED 7500, SURG 7400.

I’m registered for your clerkship during period XXX and am forwarding you an accommodation letter from the University of Minnesota’s Disability Resource Center. I will also share this letter with the Site Director and meet with them to discuss how the accommodations will be implemented during my clerkship.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding how my accommodations will apply in your clerkship or if you would like me to set up a time to discuss this with you.
