What's your Major/Minor? Why did you choose that major?
My major is Computer Science and my minor is Art and Design! I was in between MechE and CS when I first came to Michigan, but CS was more fun for me so I choose CS under CoE. I've always had art as a hobby in high school and knew that I would want to continue it through college by taking a minor. I'm hoping to work in an area of CS that involves both my interests of coding and design, such as Full Stack, Frontend, or UI/UX work.
What courses are you mentoring for this semester?
This semester I'm mentoring for EECS 183. I'll be hosting zoom sessions with Charles on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6PM. Here is the zoom link: https://umich.zoom.us/j/91706082675. Come stop by if you have any questions, and they don't have to be CS related either!
What internships have you had? What have you learned from them?
In my sophomore summer, I had a part-time Software Engineering internship at a startup called Avrio AI in Boston, MA. I learned a lot about communication and how important it is to have a mentor for an internship that involves a large project. Despite the lack of mentorship and direction, I was still able to push out a script that imported jobs from a job feed. I got a lot of experience leading a team from this internship as well.
For my junior year summer, I had a Software Engineering Internship at Amazon; I learned so much about what the industry is like. I had the support of my mentor, manager, and team. I loved my team and what I was working on, and I loved what Seattle had to offer.
What are your graduation plans?
I'll be graduating April 2023 and will be going back to Amazon as a full-time Software Engineer! I'll be working for the Underserved Populations team.
Fun fact about yourself?
I drew a logo for a restaurant! The signage looks really cool and it's awesome to know that my artwork is displayed for all to see.
