Very recently, the 10th International Conference of Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Product (ICMBMP) was concluded in March 2023 with the theme ‘Mushrooms for Planetary Health’. Mushrooms can be linked to planetary health in several ways. Firstly, mushrooms have potential health benefits for humans as they contain high levels of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them a nutritious addition to a balanced diet. Consuming mushrooms can also have medicinal benefits, as certain species have been found to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties.
Furthermore, the cultivation of mushrooms has the potential to be a sustainable and environmentally friendly practice. Mushrooms can be grown using waste products such as agricultural residue and sawdust, reducing the amount of waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. Additionally, mushroom cultivation can help to sequester carbon from the atmosphere and improve soil health, as the fungi break down organic matter and release nutrients.
In this upcoming exhibition, we are going to highlight some of the research work from the Mushroom Research Center.
