Seaweed is a promising resource for promoting planetary health in a number of ways. As a highly sustainable food source, seaweed has a low environmental impact and requires minimal inputs such as freshwater, fertilizers, and pesticides. Seaweed farming also has the potential to help mitigate the negative effects of climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide. In addition to its use as a food source, seaweed has various industrial and pharmaceutical applications.
Furthermore, seaweed is an important component of marine ecosystems, providing habitat and food for a variety of species. By supporting marine ecosystems, seaweed helps to maintain biodiversity and resilience to environmental change. In the upcoming UM Research Gallery Exhibition, Dr C+weed will show some of the current seaweed awareness activities.
There will also be seaweed food testing!
Make sure you don't miss it!
