Event Materials and Management
Go for paperless (e.g used emails, QR code, e-book, e-brochure, etc.) AND minimize printed promotional materials
Use recycled banners/ buntings OR opt for e-banner for the event OR make sure you recylcle your banners.
Avoid or at least reduce distribution of plastic bags/ parcel/ wrappers
Choose environmentally friendly/ recycled decorations by reducing the use of disposable items AND strictly no balloons or plastic decoration
Consider venue with high levels of natural daylight
If possible, use fan air cooler as the alternative solutions to air conditioner
If the event space uses air conditioner, it is recommended to set the temperature at 24’ Celsius (ideal temperature). Insulate the space. Keep doors and windows closed at all times.
Promote energy, water, and waste efficiency to participants, and invite the participants in reducing the environmental impacts of the event through signage and announcement
Avoid giving out nametag or opt for eco-friendly nametag or lanyard AND provide nametag or lanyard drop off bin after event has ended
Provide proper signage of direction for the people with disabilities
Encourage attendees to carpool or take public transport, where possible.
Give e-certificates as substitute to conventional certificates
Opt for green/ eco/ do-it-yourself (DIY) gifts and souvenirs
Plan activities that do not have a negative impact on the environment, and that respect local biodiversity and local communities
Refreshments and Dining
Order optimum amount of food and inform caterers of exact numbers of participants to avoid waste
Select healthy and sustainable food menu
Use local food vendor that promotes local products
Engage local food vendors known for sustainable practices
Encourage participants to bring their own food container (in advance via email of invitation) AND use compostable items and reusable crockery for take-away options.
Set up water refilling stations or opt for providing drinking water in jug so that participants can use glass or container to drink and refill
Avoid the use / serving single-use food and beverage containers / cutleries (e.g. straws, plastic plate) which include serving bottle or packed drinks, polystyrene/ plastic container
Provide food waste bin and ensure food waste separation is implemented
Partner with food donation programmes or consider alternative options such as livestock feeding, food waste for industrial energy and compost creation so the leftover food doesn’t go to landfill
Waste management
Select suppliers who use compostable or recyclable packaging
Create poster or signage that is reusable (long lasting and can be used many times)
Provide recycling bin for participants and inform participants about the recycling arrangement in place
Ensure all bins are clearly labelled
Put up easy to view signage at your event, so visitors are informed of recycling procedures
Share recycling success stories on the event website
