Faces(Spring 2017)
charcoal, graphite, hard pastel, sharpie
18inx24in drawing paper
Within this piece I wanted to create somewhat of a collage. At random I chose 6 different portrait images and from there I chose a feature to add to the face I was creating.
Grace(Spring 2017)
charcoal, hard pastel
In this work I wanted to configure something more simple and carefree. With most of my charcoal drawings being class assignments all following the theme of the human figure, I thought drawing a cropping of a ballerina and her tutu would be something more dainty, slim and beautiful compared to what I had been working on otherwise.
Nudie(Spring 2017)
charcoal
18inx24in newsprint
An abstract, line drawing of of a figure model. Being one of my first figure drawings, I wanted to highlight the strong definitive lines within the body.
Three Wise Rasta Men
Sharpie
Coming from my love of Jamaica, reggae and Rastafari, I created this image with inspiration from Three Wise Monkeys. Inspired by the Rastafari culture, each element of the men ties to the culture. Each man is wearing his hair in locks, representing their free spirit. I also represented the colors of the Rastafarian flag differently in each man. The colors mean a lot in the culture as well, the official meanings are different than what I was taught by Jamaicans who follow the culture but red symbolizing the blood of loved ones, yellow symbolizing the sun and the warmth it gives the Island, and green symbolizing their love for Ganja. Each man is also smoking a joint, and that's because Marijuana is very important to the Rasta culture in a spiritual manner. Rasta's will refer to it as the "Holy Herb".
Mr. Broccoli
Sharpie
Inspired by the song Broccoli by D.R.A.M. I wanted to create an animated piece of broccoli and have him smoking some 'Broccoli', because you know, all she wanna do is smoke that broccoli.
