For my urban exploration I found it really interesting why these guys in the image were all sitting on top of the seating area. In a way, I kind of felt that it was like a monkey see monkey do type of thing, because guys who act masculine do not want to be seen doing something so they don't get made fun of. Overall, it was really fun to see people doing strange things at UIC, and I really did like to see a lot of things that I never knew people would do around campus.
The space is being used as a seating area which is not how it is intended for. The area that they are sitting on is the border for the plants and the actual seating area. What I wonder is how these students backs must feel after slouching over for a period of time.
When I was in Hull House, I really did enjoy my time their. It was so interesting to see how much space was used in the rooms that they offered to show us. One area that I found really interesting was how they had a huge hole in the side of the staircase that was meant for moving coffins out of the house. The hole did not really catch my attention because it just looked like a hole in the wall, nothing special. When I started to “look”, I noticed that the information card was referring to the hole in the wall as a coffin corner. Over all, the way they encompassed space really fascinated me because I never thought someone would need to make a hole in the wall because they need to move a coffin out the house. Architecture is so fascinating.
Roberto, the coffin wall is fascinating! What did you think of the "Claiming Space" exhibit? When you think about the specific history of school closures the exhibit was responding to, what does it mean to claim space?
