Education Abroad Programs (EAP) offer qualified students unique opportunities to broaden their educational horizons.
The EEB Department encourages interested students to participate. It is possible to participate in EAP and graduate on time.
It is important to plan early for EAP opportunities.
Begin your exploration of the possibilities at the UCSC International Education Office. You can learn about EAP, how to apply, when to apply, financial aid availability, and available programs and their requirements. You can also consider Independent Programs or UC Summer Abroad. If you need help choosing a program, meet with a Programs Abroad Advisor.
It can be possible to satisfy major requirements while abroad. Any major requirements to be satisfied while abroad must be approved PRIOR to application for and acceptance in the program. In addition, all students must be declared in an EEB-approved major prior to departure for these programs. Please plan accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: Students earn various numbers of credits in various numbers of courses in these programs. Because the majority of these programs are not offered by UCSC, the student will be required to ensure an official transcript is sent to, or official credits are posted to their account at, UCSC. As these courses are not offered at UCSC, they are not programmed to satisfy/are not associated with any specific major requirements in the degree progress report (DPR). Students who participate in these programs are responsible for contacting eebadvising@ucsc.edu once a passing grade (C or higher) has been earned in each of the UCEAP courses and request that the course/credits be entered as appropriate exceptions to requirements in the DPR.
Be sure to discuss the Senior Residence graduation requirement with your college advising team to determine the best quarter(s) in which to study abroad and still meet the requirement.
It can take several months for UCEAP credits to arrive at/be posted to your UCSC record, which may delay graduation if your experience happens in your final quarter at UCSC. This could also impact your enrollment appointments for upcoming quarters. These are additional reasons to contact an EEB advisor early and ensure your academic plan is accurate and up to date throughout your time at UCSC.
