Planning the Prenatal Care Influence on Child Development Unit
This project includes a unit of lesson plans (at least two weeks worth) that incorporate innovative teaching methods. The lessons feature a formal written lesson plan, materials needed for the lesson plans, and other unit features such as a bulletin board. The final product includes all of these items, in addition to a 10-page paper summarizing the project and conclusions.

Creative Arts and Physical Therapy for Children
This project explores how more of the creative arts can be incorporated in the practice of physical therapy for children. Care plans (similar to lesson plans) for each of the creative arts (visual art, literature, music, dramatic play) were used to develop the skills of the child and analyzed in a 10-page paper.

Parental Perceptions of having a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder
This project looks into the perceptions of parents who have children with Autism and stress that can be accompanied by it. Additionally, this project identifies resources that are available and used by these families in order to decrease stress and crisis in the family. The final product consists of a research paper that is a minimum of 10 pages, including information from interviews of 3-4 families with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Impact of Social Support on Parental Self-Efficacy and Coping Abilities Among Parents of Children with a Chronic Illness
This project consists of research looking at parents of children with disabilities and looking at how parents perceive their stress and their children’s stress in different areas of their lives. Additionally, this project examines different types of social support and ways to cope. These findings are articulated through a research paper and presentation at TWU Creative Arts and Research Symposium, as well as NCUR.

Using Children’s Literature to Understand Child Coping Skills and Facilitate Development of Appropriate Interventions
This project will consist of a research paper and flannel board ‘look at a book’ geared towards 3-5 year-olds that is centered around crisis and coping. After reading the book and introducing the flannel board with characters from the reading and various coping mechanisms, this project observes the children’s interactions with the flannel board and how it can be used as an appropriate intervention.

Fostering Fine Motor Development in Differently Abled Children
This project includes an interactive book created to help improve fine motor skills. Each page includes a different tactile activity. Children of different developmental stages and abilities (neurotypical and atypical) are observed to see how the book scaffolds their motor skills. The project includes a research paper to summarize findings.
