We feel that with these guidelines students are able to help us create the best possible learning environment for all.

We thank you for your active participation in your student's education and look forward to a great year together!

40 Book Challenge

Dear Parents,

We have started our 40 Book Challenge! I am challenging your child to read 40 books by the end of the school year. I know they can do it!  The purpose of this challenge is to get your child reading books they might not normally choose and to increase their love of reading in different genres. We know that avid readers are better students. This can be accomplished by reading during independent reading time at school and spending at least 20 minutes reading daily at home. Some books, like shorter nonfiction books, can be read possibly in a day or two. Some books will obviously take longer to finish. The best way to become a better reader and to build vocabulary is to read!

Each book must be read by your child. Books they read in class count in their 40 book total. If a book is longer than 160 pages, it can counts as two books. Students will be responding to their reading in a response assignment that will be housed in a composition book.  They will also be tracking their progress on a tracker that we display outside the classroom. Genre requirements are listed below.

Please help me keep your child on target by discussing what they have been reading at home. Also help me motivate your child to complete the 40 Book Challenge.

Happy Reading!

Mrs. Villegas-Frampton
