We completely understand that sometimes it will be necessary for you to miss a class or instructional day. It is our intention to maintain continuity of instruction and provide high-quality, meaningful learning opportunities for your scholars in the event of your absence. Whenever possible, please schedule your absences in advance and contact one of our TUVA preferred guest teachers. Lesson plans should be uploaded in Canvas and Red Rover for all scheduled absences.
Red Rover is our new Absence Management System (replacing Frontline). Click here for directions to set up Red Rover.
All of our regular TUVA subs will have access to curriculum materials through Clever and will be able to access your Canvas page as a guest teacher.
Contact a guest teacher to cover your class.
Post your absence in Red Rover. There is an option to pre-arrange a sub if you were able to connect with one of our guest teachers.
Upload and publish lesson materials and assignments in Canvas.
Upload lesson plan, daily schedule, and any necessary classroom information as an attachment in Red Rover.
Email Jocelyn Lopez, Michelle Sigafus, AND your supervising administrator with your absence notification and your lesson plans.
If you have a planned absence, lesson plans must be completed in advance and uploaded in Canvas and Red Rover. These lessons should include direct instruction and keep students engaged in meaningful work.
Guest teachers will have access to curriculum on Clever and your Canvas page. Please upload (and remember to publish) assigned work for your guest teacher.
There may be an instance where you need time off unexpectedly. Please have 3 days of emergency lesson plans ready in the event of an unplanned absence. Each of these plans should be designed for a single-day absence that can be taught at any time during the semester. Emergency lesson plans must include direct instruction and activities that engage students. For example, a list of videos for students to watch is not acceptable, but a short video with a graphic organizer, writing prompt and discussion opportunities throughout the video would be acceptable. Similarly, emergency lesson plans should not be a time for students to work independently on an app for an extended period of time.
Emergency plans must include a document that is time-bound and outlines how the guest teacher will guide instruction throughout your class period or instructional day.
Please be sure you have included your daily schedule and all relevant class information as part of your emergency lesson plans.
Student materials can be loaded as a module in Canvas. Our leadership team will be able to publish the module for you in the event of your absence.
When you have a planned absence, follow the Time-Off Protocol described above.
When possible, attempt to pre-arrange your substitute using the preferred TUVA guest teacher list.
Maintain 3 days of relevant emergency lesson plans that include direct instruction.
