Teacher clarity, or the ability for students to understand their learning, has been shown to have a considerable positive effect on student outcomes. We want our learners to be active participants in their learning. When students understand what they are learning and why that learning is important, student engagement increases. Students also need to know how they will be assessed and how they will know they have successfully learned a concept. When facilitating instruction, include opportunities to ensure students are able to answer these three questions:
What am I learning?
Why am I learning this?
How will I know that I have learned it?
This year, Instructional Walkthroughs facilitated by the leadership team will focus on evidence of the clarity questions and students' ability to answer these questions.
Lesson plan with the clarity questions in mind.
Open lessons with your learning target and provide students with student-friendly responses to the three clarity questions.Â
