Technology tools offer ways to enhance assessments for teachers to better understand what student have learned. As a Google Apps for Education district, we have a number of tools available to help us with the following:

- combining tech skills and literacy skills for assessments

Digital Copy of Text + Paper copy of questions
Start with a simple change; Ask the students to read the text online. Here is one way to do just that.
Steps:
- Find appropriate text and questions to respond the text
- Share the text digitally
- such as through Google Classroom
- Make copies of the questions for your students
- Ask students to read the text online carefully
- Review the results of the questions
- Plan next steps with your students and their learning needs

Start slow! In this example, I recommend keeping the reading and thinking about the reading the same as it has been traditionally; with paper. But the stretch for students is to respond to the questions online via Google Forms. Here is one way to do that.
Steps:
- Find appropriate text and questions to respond the text
- Make the questions in a Google Form
- Need help with your first Google form? LINK here.
- Open the text and print it.
- Make enough copies of the text for each student to use.
- Share the link to the LIVE Google Form
- Such as in Google Classroom
- Ask your students to read the text and respond to the questions via the Google Form.
- Review the results on the Google Sheet that is populated by the Google Form.
- Plan next steps with your students and their learning needs

This is my recommendation! These tools make a testing like situation and yet, put the work of setting it up more on the student. Let me know if you wish to attempt this strategy in your classroom.

There is a way to split the screen on a Chromebook. Why do this?
- Have text on one side and questions on the other
- Have one side of the screen for a Google Doc of notes and the other for a video to watch
