Digital Copy of Text + Paper copy of questions
Start with a simple change; Ask the students to read the text online. Here is one way to do just that.
Steps:
Start slow! In this example, I recommend keeping the reading and thinking about the reading the same as it has been traditionally; with paper. But the stretch for students is to respond to the questions online via Google Forms. Here is one way to do that.

This is my recommendation! These tools make a testing like situation and yet, put the work of setting it up more on the student. Let me know if you wish to attempt this strategy in your classroom.
