There are three different audio systems in our schools at this time; as of January 2022. There is the Audio Enhancement System (installed in elementary schools and Showalter's A Wing in 2014 or after). This system uses infrared technology to have the teacher lanyard microphone and the student handheld microphone communicate to the ceiling mounted receiver. Then there is the Front Row microphone and amplifier. This is a simple audio system that has a power on and mute button for the teacher lanyard microphone. There is not a student microphone. Last, there is the updated Audio Enhancment
Updated; January 2022.
1) I have a loud voice. Do I really need a soundfield system?
Yes! Loud does not necessarily equal intelligible. The audio system will distribute your voice to all students and that cannot be equaled by speaking louder. The system will also allow you to use the full dynamic range of your voice for instruction. Through the audio system, speaking in a soft soothing voice can be just as audible and intelligible as a raised voice. In one student's words, "I didn't feel as if my teacher was yelling at me."
2) Will my audio system be disruptive to my neighboring classrooms?
If the levels are set correctly on your audio system, the sound coming from the speakers should be barely audible over your own voice. The goal is to distribute your voice throughout the classroom at a natural, uniform level. If you are disrupting your neighbors, the system may be turned up too loud.
3) I am worried about broadcasting private moments and conversations through my soundfield system. How can I keep this from happening?
Your wireless microphone transmits through an infrared signal, so when you leave your classroom, you will no longer be heard through the speakers. If you are in the room you can press the mute button on your microphone or simply cover up the sensor to have a private conversation.
4) How often do I need to change my microphone rechargeable batteries?
If you use your microphone every day, it will last over a year. Audio Enhancement recommends a change of batteries at the start of every school year, to get the best from the system.
