What if my child has contracted head lice?
Please notify the nurse's office and before returning to the classroom, check in through the nurse's office. Children do not need to be nit free but they do need to have started lice treatment either at a lice center or with a specialty shampoo at home. If multiple cases occur across a grade level parents will be notified.
Head Lice
When a case of live lice or nits is discovered in a preschool through third grade classroom, those children will be checked for lice because group activities in those grades often result in children having close proximity with one another. On finding live lice or untreated nits within one cm of the scalp, the school nurse will notify you and recommend that you arrange to pick up your child for timely treatment.
After treatment, your child may return to school. Please be vigilant in checking your child daily for 10-14 days, to ensure that all nits have been removed. Your child's classroom will be re-checked by the nurse after 2 weeks. If you find lice on your child please be sure to notify the health office so that your child's classmates can be checked if necessary.
