18.3 School Health Service
Each school staffs nurses who are available during the school day. They administer vision and hearing tests to all of the school children per Department of Public Health Guidelines and make medical referrals in cases of deficiency. They also schedule clinics, maintain health records and administer first aid to injured or ill children.
In the event your child is injured or becomes ill, the school nurse will administer first aid, then notify you and then give further care to your child if necessary.
When can my child return to school after an illness?
Your child's temperature is normal for 24 hours & the child has not vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours. In the case of conjunctivitis, students may return to school when treatment has been started and there is no longer drainage from the eyes.
If my child is ill or injured in school, how will I be notified?
The nurse will contact a parent using the emergency card information parent's provide at the beginning of each school year. Please call the nurse or front office and update the information if any changes are made during the year.
What if I want to send in a special snack?
All labels with the ingredients listed need to be sent in along with the snack if the classroom is peanut/nut aware. All attempts are made to provide a safe school setting and to minimize risks. We cannot guarantee a peanut free environment at all times, the ultimate aim is to educate all involved and have the students be as self-sufficient as possible. Please see Severe Allergies Section
What if my child can't participate in all activities?
It is expected that children will participate in all activities, PE class and recess. If that is not possible, a doctor's note is needed to make any accommodations. Please see the Injury Section
