Food
Due to possible allergies, students are not allowed to share food at lunch or snack. Any food for
classroom events or parties should be arranged in cooperation with the classroom teacher and
may be restricted based on student health needs. We do not allow food to be sent in for students’
birthdays. If your child has food allergies, please notify the school nurse at your child’s school.
Allergies and Classroom Snack Policy
1. Peanut/Tree Nut- Policy: To help maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all
students, classrooms that include children with food allergies will follow a nut-free policy,
as directed by the school nurse. If your child is placed in one of these classrooms, all snacks
must be completely free from nuts in the classroom. This includes peanuts, tree nuts and
any foods that contain these ingredients.
2. Pre-Packaged Foods: When sending pre-packaged snacks, please ensure the ingredient
label clearly states that the product is free of restricted allergens and not manufactured in a
facility that processes those allergens.
3. Homemade Treats: Due to the difficulty in verifying ingredients and preventing
cross-contamination, homemade snacks are not allowed unless prior approval is obtained
from the teacher.
4. Labeling: All food sent in for classroom consumption in designated nut-free classrooms
should be labeled with the name and ingredients if not in original packaging, as directed by
the school nurse. This helps us verify that all snacks meet the classroom’s nut-free
guidelines and ensures the safety of all students.
5. Snack Alternatives: If a student brings a snack that contains nuts, tree nuts, or whose
ingredients cannot be identified through labels, the student will be asked to put the snack
away until lunch and will be provided with a nut/tree nut-free snack from the school.
Staff-Approved Special Events
● When classroom celebrations are planned, teachers will communicate approved snack
options in advance.
● Non-food items (e.g., stickers, pencils, erasers) are encouraged as alternatives to edible
treats.
