Whenever possible, medications (both prescription and over-the-counter drugs) should be taken outside of school hours in order to achieve the medical regimen at home. Medication to be taken three times a day can be given before school, after school and at bedtime.
Medication Protocol
A Consent for Administration Form is required for ALL prescription and non prescription medications taken during the school day.
A Physician's order is required for all prescription and non prescription medications.
All forms and physician orders for medication must be renewed at the start of each school year.
Medication must be delivered to school by the parent/guardian or designated adult, and never with the child.
Medication must be delivered in the original container/prescription box with the pharmacy label attached.
No medication will be accepted or administered if it arrives unlabeled, or out of the original container.
Medication: If a parent prefers, he/she may come to school and administer the medication. During field trips every effort will be made to send a nurse to administer medications. If no nurse is available the parent will be notified.
***All medication being kept in the health office needs to be picked up by the last school day. All remaining medication that is left/forgotten will be discarded by the close of the last school day per state regulations.
