License Tilos
The License Manager is a standalone executable. Changing the License Mode must be done before starting the main application. The main application will read the configuration and respond to the license mode accordingly when launched. The Help > License Manager menu item has been replaced by Help > Account Info.
Use the License Manager dialog to access these three license options:
Demo - All Tilos functions are available, but you cannot save a file with more than 10 objects. This option existed previously.
Named user - This new license option will ask you to sign in using your Trimble Identity (TID) account. If you have purchased your product using this license option, and you don’t have a Trimble Identity account, you will need to create one first.
Classic - There are no changes to the “classic” way of licensing the product. If you have purchased your product using this licensing method, select this option.
Licensing scenarios
Clean installation licensing
After you install Tilos, the License Manager opens automatically.
Select the license mode you want and close the dialog.
Start Tilos and click Sign in (if using Named User licensing).
Sign in with your Trimble Identity (TID) credentials and close the browser tab.
Return to Tilos. You are now licensed for use.
Re-installation licensing
After you install Tilos, do not open the program/close it if it opens automatically.
In the Windows Start box, type License Manager and click Start License Manager.
Select the license mode you want and close the dialog.
Start Tilos and click Sign in (if using Named User licensing).
Sign in with your Trimble Identity credentials and close the browser tab.
Return to Tilos. You are now licensed for use.
Upgrade from Classic license to Named user license
Use the same steps as re-installation above.
Licensing with your Trimble Identity (as a named user)
Choose Named user license mode and click Change. A new tab opens in your web browser.
Sign in with your TID credentials and return to Tilos.
Note: If you find that you are still in Demo mode, you probably do not have a Named User license. Follow the steps in Purchase and Manage Licenses below to get one.
Note: When switching license modes in version 11.0, you were automatically signed out from TID. In versions 11.1 and above, this will not occur; you will remain signed in. If you need to sign out, you must do this from the Trimble Identity page for Tilos. When you switch modes, Tilos closes and reopens also.
Note: When running Tilos as a Named User via your Trimble Identity (TID), the program now only allows one TID-based session to run at a time. While your Named User license allows you to run Tilos on different computers at different times, session management now protects you from someone else using your TID. If two Tilos sessions are running with the same Named User license, the older session is logged out.
Licensing with a Classic License (license file and serial number)
Choose Classic license mode and click Change.
Choose one of the three options:
Redo licensing process - Select this to use a new license file and serial number. Then Accept, type in, or browse to this default license file location, and enter a serial number. Click Next.
Connect to existing License Folder - Select this to use a previously installed license file. Then Accept, type in, or browse to this default license file location and click Next.
Enter new Product ID - Select this to enter a new serial number. Enter the serial number, and click Next.
Tilos now also has a license status indicator at the bottom of the application window. Click the status text to open a pop-up message that you can copy-and-paste into an email when you need to contact Support.
Purchasing and Managing Licenses
You can still purchase Tilos by emailing Tilos@trimble.com. After purchase, you can also manage all your company’s term-based licenses in an admin portal that allows you to:
View all the products you have access to/are licensed for.
See the number of unused/open versus those that are assigned/allocated and to whom.
Add another user by finding them by the email associated with their TID.
Note: In order to find users by TID in the system (step 6 below), those users must visit the Civil Product Services page and sign in once with their TID or by creating a TID for the first time.
Revoke a license when someone no longer needs it, freeing it up for another user.
Reassign a license to a new user after a 7-day period.
Self-administration enables you to verify and manage all the seats your company owns independently. As an admin, you can add and remove users every 7 days. This new functionality gives you the power of a hybrid between single-user and floating license systems.
Administering Tilos Licenses
Purchase licenses by emailing Support. They set up a digital contract for a number of seats, which you can then assign using the steps below.
To create a TID, visit this page. If you have trouble, see Support Note - Creating, Using, and Troubleshooting a Trimble Identity.
Open the Trimble Civil Product Services page and sign in with your TID.
Click Manage Products to see all the products you have access to/are licensed for.
If you have customer admin rights, click Administration. The page shows the total slots for Tilos, the number assigned/allocated, and to whom.
To add another user, type the email address associated with their TID in the Search box. See the note under Purchasing and Managing Licenses above. Alternately, if you do not appear using Search, you can invite them here, but then you must wait for each to accept the invitation before you can license them.
Check their License Status and click the License icon to the right and then Add in the dialog to assign a license to your colleague.
To revoke a license of any active user, click the License icon again and Revoke in the dialog.
Note: Once removed, a user cannot be re-added until 7 days have passed.
Using the Offline License Mode
New term-based subscription licenses can also be used offline for 7 days when:
Your computer has no internet connection, such as when you need to work on an airplane
The TID service is not responding (you cannot log in)
The TCPS is not responding (you cannot acquire a license check)
Offline mode works when you have been online at least once in the previous 7 days, including a first-time license check. You must go online again within 7 days to refresh the license.
