The GCSE in Sociology explores the social factors that shape human behaviour and the way that society influences our daily lives. This course will benefit students who have an interest in the world around them and want to know why society is organised in the way it is.

Motivated to learn, keen to ask questions, seek answers, develop their opinions and justify their own views.
During this course you will study the role of education and why girls do better at school than boys, why some people commit crime, the different types of families there are in Britain and who controls the media.
Course Content
There are 6 topics which we will study, as follows:
Unit 1
Families – the different types of families in the UK
Education – the role of education in Britain
Theory and research methods
Unit 2
Crime and deviance – why do some people commit crime?
Social stratification – the sociology of different social classes in society

The AQA GCSE (9-1) is assessed through two examination papers as follows:
Paper 1 – Unit 1
1 hour 45 mins – 50% of the final grade.
Paper 2 – Unit 2
1 hour 45 mins – 50% of the final grade.
