Design and Technology - Textiles is a subject that aims to develop knowledge, creative and practical skills, leading towards invention and innovation for designing and making prototypes that solve real and relevant problems. GCSE Design and Technology - Textiles is centred around working with the core material of textiles.
A successful Design Technology Textiles student needs a mix of creative, technical, organisational skills, combined with a passion for the subject. Students will need to demonstrate creativity and innovation to develop original ideas that allows them to experiment with textures, patterns and materials.
In the first half term students will develop their technical skills in sewing and construction, mastering a range of sewing techniques. They will gain an in-depth knowledge of materials and the make-up of fabrics and fibres.
Students will work towards a mock NEA to solve a real-life problem. The skills learnt here will support them in the NEA which starts in June of year 10.
