Languages can help you to improve your cultural awareness and make you a more confident and effective communicator. They will also help improve your career prospects, some studies have shown that being bilingual at work can boost your salary by between 5% and 20%!
It is all about: Practice, practice, practice!
You will also need to participate in lessons on a regular basis and ensure your assignments are submitted on time. You will need to revise in a way that best suits you, find out what type of learner you are and stick to revising that way.
Above all, it is all about enjoying learning the language!
The course is split in 3 Themes:
Theme 1: People and lifestyle.
Theme 2: Popular culture.
Theme 3: Communication and the world around us.
Students start studying Theme 1 in year 9, over the years students are expected to use the vocabulary and grammar across a range of contexts and assessment tasks.
We offer GCSE courses in French, Spanish and German. These courses follow the AQA specification and assess the pupils in the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will also have a formal grammar and translation exams as part of their reading and writing exams.

AO1: understand and respond to spoken language in speaking and in writing – 35%
AO2: understand and respond to written language in speaking and in writing – 45%
AO3: demonstrate understanding and accurate application of the grammar and vocabulary prescribed in the specification – 20%
