GCSE Exam Board: Eduqas (C560U40) Who to Speak to: Mrs. Coulthard
Studying a GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition will equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. It contains a fair element of practical cooking work, enabling students to make informed choices about food and nutrition. It aims to empower students to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life.
This GCSE is scientific and focuses on nutrition. You will be expected to complete a regular weekly amount of theory paperwork and homework. There is also a requirement for ingredients to be purchased frequently. Please contact the school to speak about financial assistance if this may be difficult.
You will learn the skills to cook a large variety of dishes, using foods from all the sections of the Eatwell Guide. You will learn about the function of different foods and their impact on your body. The course includes sections on the environment, food miles, the nutritional needs of people at different stages of their lives, the science of cooking in how things work together, the contribution of cultures from all over the world to our rich culinary offer in Britain.
Most importantly you will become confident in feeding yourself and other people in a healthy way.
