First Year
Vacation
You have 20 days of PTO to use however you want throughout the year.
You can't take more than 5 days off in a rotation, but you do not have to take them all in a week long block if you don't want to.
You do not need to use PTO for taking Step 3
You can take vacation during the following rotations
Anesthesia/Radiology
Newborn/NICU
Surgery
ED
OB
You may take PTO during 1 of your OB blocks during intern year. If you take PTO during OB intern year, you cannot take vacation during OB as an R2.
Call
Day intern call shifts are from 8 am - 5 pm on both Saturday and 8 am - 4 pm on Sunday
Night intern call shifts are from 5 pm Saturday - 8 am Sunday
Each intern takes 10-11 call shifts. It's generally pretty easy to swap call shifts around amongst your classmates.
If you do swap, take into consideration that you shouldn't take FMS call when you're on Children's, Medicine, ICU, or OB. These rotations have their own call schedules. If you do swap to take a call shift while you're on the DECC, make sure that you chat with the chiefs about letting the DECC scheduler know ASAP.
