If a home can transform into a school, why don't we transform and convert parents into teachers?

Objectives:

• Curb illiteracy among pupils

• Increase band score in assessment

• Strengthen parental involvement in classroom

Focus group:

Year 2 parents as their children missed out crucial elements to learn English during Year 1 due to school closure

Statistics:

• 85% Y2 parents are single working parents

• 90/120 parents agreed to participate in this programme

Initial idea:

• Parents will come to school on a weekly basis, on Saturdays with their children

• Parents will be trained and guided- a role play will be done with their children based on modules provided

• 1 teacher : 10 parents

(teachers could not personally accommodate to each parent in a personalised manner of teaching and learning)

Implemented idea (via Cikgu Kickstart)

• Teacher as a facilitator

• Teachers train volunteers and volunteers train parents

• 1 volunteer : 1 parent

• Volunteers were gathered under the BOLD parents (Edvolution Enterprise) to initiate Jom Baca project.

(each volunteer accommodates to each parent via a personalised teaching and learning process)
