Kenosha County used $10,000 for motels to be built for homeless people. This provided a temporary home to help people get back on their feet.

However, a group that has taken a genuine interest in the homeless problem believes that a far more comprehensive strategy is required. It's referred to as "housing first."

Homelessness in Southeastern Wisconsin was discussed on Community Matters hosted that weekend. Reverend Kathy Gloff, the president of CUSH(Congregations United to Serve Humanity), Rev. Dr. Susan Patterson-Sumwalt, and Karen Kempinen, a member of the CUSH Unsheltered Homeless Task Force, were there to address the topic of homelessness.

  • Many people showed enough response to the issue that homelessness in the Southeastern was discussed on Community Matters and CUSH.

"Citizens contacting their state representatives, because now is the time the budget is being put together for our state, (should) make sure that money is allocated to support the good ideas in the Wisconsin Inter-agency Council on homelessness report," said Reverend Kathy Gloff.

Kenosha County has just come up with $10,000 for a motel voucher program for homeless people.

The “Advocating for Motel Vouchers” is important because it helped many homeless people have a temporary shelter and it helped to serve humanity by bringing together many organizations.
