LESSON FOUR

As you begin this Lesson, let’s review what you learned earlier in Lesson Three. Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. Once you understand antonyms, you will be a better reader and a better writer

because you will be able to use vocabulary words which have opposite meanings. Using antonyms adds interest and variety to your communication skills.


Here is a list of words that are familiar to you. They are grouped in pairs because they have opposite meanings. Each pair is a set of antonyms.



Now look for those antonyms in the sentences that follow.


The superhero felt helpless when he did not have his strength, but he felt powerful when he did!


Since the puppy seldom did what he was supposed to do, his master was frequently frustrated.


She thought she would be bored watching the movie, but she suddenly was interested when she saw her favorite actor appear.


If you only do the minimum amount of work, you will not get the maximum reward.


At first the plant was diseased; but after she added water and fertilizer to it, the plant looked healthy again.
