FACT AND OPINION
Students are taught the difference between a fact and an opinion by seeing numerous illustrations presented.
The value of opinions in persuasive writing is discussed. Various strategies to strengthen persuasive writing are explained: sensory impressions, well-selected adverbs, indirect reference, and descriptions of personal qualities.
Students are taught how to differentiate between a fact and an opinion by learning to evaluate credentials and Internet sources, by learning to utilize library reference materials and personal interviews.
