Dear TASIS Dorado Community:
This communication aims to kick off our newly created Google Sites as well as summarizes what our TASIS Dorado National Student Council has done during the month of August. We have worked tirelessly these first few weeks to establish our goals for this academic year. We are happy to inform you that we have coined this year, Cheer Year! Our goal is to continue uniting our student body through a myriad of different and exciting activities.
Last week, we celebrated our 2022 - 2023 Student Council Induction Ceremony. This milestone sets the tone for our whole year. We would like to wholeheartedly thank all of you who joined and supported us either as a live audience member and/or watched us through the live stream. For those of you who were not able to attend and/or see the ceremony, here is the recording of the ceremony. We want to ensure that all the Secondary Division Student Body can watch and hear the Executive Board’s messages and promises.
Before I continue, I would like to formally introduce myself for those who may not know who I am. My name is Karen Miranda Rivera, and I am honored to have been selected as the new TASIS Dorado National Student Council Adviser for the 2022 - 2023 academic year. I have been part of the TASIS Dorado community for the last thirteen years. Throughout these years, I have had several roles here at school. I have been a Spanish and SSL teacher, the Secondary Division Spanish Department Coordinator, the Elementary Division Spanish as Second Language Coordinator, and lastly a class advisor. Out of all these roles, the latter is the one I have enjoyed the most. The role of class advisor has allowed me to work closely and directly with student leaders. It has also allowed me to have been a part of their journey in becoming adults, and, subsequently, positive role models in our ever-growing community. Although I never thought those experiences would lead me to become the Student Council Adviser, I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I vow to work day in and day out to guide and support this great group of students as they act and grow as class and school leaders.
As previously mentioned, the Executive Board worked arduously before the start of the year to design a well-rounded plan to celebrate our school pride. It was through that hard work that Cheer Year was born. In hopes of including and involving everyone, the Executive Board has outlined several activities throughout the school year that will allow every member of the student body to participate. At the same time, we want to encourage the student body to express their school pride and share with our community how unique our school truly is.
Our year promises to be an exciting one! We are thrilled to continue traditional activities such as our PSAT Day Picnic Lunch, Pink Day, Merry Week, Spirit Week, and Teachers' Appreciation Breakfast. The StuCo Board is even more excited to bring back activities like the Middle School Dance and movie afternoons. The Board is also proud to announce the new addition of Final Fridays. Every last Friday of each month there will be team competitions that will highlight our school spirit. The first Final Friday was a total success. We congratulate the Juniors for earning the first Final Friday win of this year. The next Final Friday will be on September 30th, 2022. We cannot wait to share our plans and new rules!
One of our goals this year is to improve our communication with the students, the administration, and the community as a whole. The Student Council works all year long, but sometimes their effort goes unknown. Therefore, we are reactivating our Instagram account to share our daily activities. We invite you to follow us at tasisstuco to see our everyday adventures. In addition to our Instagram account, the Executive Board has created a Google Sites website that will serve to share daily announcements, photos, and Spirit Week updates. On this page, students and their families will also be able to access and read the Executive Board’s Blog, which will provide more information about StuCo experiences. Moreover, you will be able to visit the Advisor's Corner to read updates on this year's journey.
We are proud to announce that we have begun paving the way for a new legacy for future TASIS Student Councils. As part of the effort to preserve our history, the Student Council will open a new position on the Executive Board: the Historian. The student in this role will document our meetings and activities, as well as, work on updating our social media pages and creating our daily announcements. This new StuCo member will work directly with the adviser during the year to improve communication with our students and community. Finally, a committee will be created to revise and amend the TASIS Dorado National Student Council Handbook as well as our StuCo’s Constitution.
The year just started. Let's work together to have a cheerful year!
