Teach Parent & Tots exactly how you would teach a beginner swimmer using the Swim Fins program.
Please read below so you are prepared to teach your first Parent & Tot lesson with Swim Fins. If you still have any questions, reach out to one of our mentors, or text the business line and we will help you.
One parent/guardian MUST be in the water: It is important that each student in a Parent and Tot class has a parent (in the water) with their child. We advised all parents of this when they signed up. If a parent isn’t going in the water, please reach out to the office so we don’t get complaints from other parents in the class.
Explain what you’re doing to parents: When teaching P&T lessons, it is important to show value in your lesson and explain what you’re doing to parents. With adults, you need to be confident, fake it till you make it.
From the Training Manual:
a. Waterbabies/P&T lesson plan: See page 13 for how to make it more fun and engaging for the younger kids. Clo uses these ideas to teach it, as well as the beginner learning board (found at each pool).
b. Beginner learning board: You can find it on page 11 of the training manual.
We have a baby doll in the dry bin at each of the pools (see pic below) to help with the first aid side of teaching a Parent & Tot Lesson.
5. Video: Before your first lesson, please watch Clo’s video of how to run a Parent & Tot lesson:
6. If you’re struggling after your first lesson, text the office line and we will get someone to help you.
