Before a new coach can teach a permanent shift on their own, they must pass a Swim Fins Certification (SFC). This is the final test where they will show you everything that they've learned. You will evaluate their performance and abilities as a Swim Fins coach, determine if they have passed their training, and if they are 100% ready to work their own permanent shift.
Please read through this evaluation form before the SFC so that you know specifically what we'll need to know.
Remember not to invite any parents onto the pool deck during the SFC classes (just like you wouldn't with training classes).
First Day Procedures: As you have already collected info pages from the parents, please do a mock first day procedure where you pretend to be the parent and the trainee talks to you to ensure that they do all of the first day procedures properly (getting info page, giving swim bag, telling what time the class ends, etc.).
Assessments: Test them on their assessments for each class.
Report Card Chart: Show them a couple of the report cards that have been either handed to you, or completed online in your coach portal, and have them fill out a bit of the report card chart.
Open House Lesson Plans:
By the end of the SFC, we want them to have filled out ONE complete OH LP for you to check over.
On the last class of their SFC (the last of the three classes they're there for), give them the OH LP that you have already written* for the class and have them teach from it to evaluate their teaching.
Red Flags: Please watch for any safety or protecting hotel contract red flags and make sure to include them in your evaluation.
Fill out this evaluation form (it's very important that we receive this, so please fill it out before the trainee leaves while everything is fresh).
At the end of the evaluation form, please let us know if you feel they have passed training and are ready to teach a shift on their own.
Please post a picture (or selfie) of you and the trainee on the WhatsApp group letting everyone know they're there doing their certification!
Thank you for being an important part of our training and mentorship team! We appreciate you so much!
