18 Gauge Annealed Wire and 26 Gauge Copper Wire

For this project, I chose to create a Rolleicord Camera out of wire. I did this because I absolutely love this camera. It is so classic and cool looking, and it takes awesome photographs. I really like the double lens on this camera and I thought that that would be cool to recreate in wire. What I wanted to show with this project was the fact that this isn't the camera you think of when you hear the word camera, yet it still is unmistakable.

To create this project, I used 18 gauge annealed wire. I used this for the main body of the camera and the internal structure. used this because it is thin enough that it is easy to bend yet thick enough that it gives the piece depth. I also used 26 gauge copper wire. I used this an accent to make the piece pop.

The process of making this piece was very slow. I had to make tiny fish hook connections at the end of every wire. I did this because it creates a super strong and sturdy bond. I leaned how to do this through practicing by making a tower and cube. These helped me feel confinant when I started the final piece. I used a real Rollei as a guide and was able to measure the wire against it so the sculpture is life sized. Once I had created the shell of the body with the black wire, I used the same wire to make a frame for the nobs and lenses. I then wrapped these with copper wire. I did this because I really like the way the copper complements the black and I think it adds a new dimension, color.
