Graphite Pencil and Colored Pencil on Drawing Paper

9" by 12"

I picked the prompt: a hotdog with ketchup and mustard, stinky socks and a bowling ball.  I chose this because the idea of a hotdog with a bowling ball really appealed to me. I read the prompt for the first time and instantly tons of possibilities screamed into my head; so I had to chose it.

I used graphite drawing pencils (2h and 6b) and colored pencils  on drawing paper for this project. I did some rough shading at the end to bring the piece together.

I love to draw in black and white with graphite, but for this project I felt like I needed to add a little pop of color. I wanted to make the hair the ketchup and mustard to I needed to differentiate the two.  I found that just adding a smear of color did the trick. I started off with a light sketch, then slowly added shading and lines. I chose add a never ending row to bowling pins because I wanted to make the piece a little more dark. the hot-dog needed a belt, so I gave him one. I wasn't trying to make the shading super smooth or realistic, I wanted a more loose and impressionistic feel.
