Acrylic Paint on Raw Canvas

For this project, I wanted to create a portrait that was not realistic but still was clearly a person. I wanted the person in the image to be sort of wistful and dreamy, in other works, I wanted emotion. I was inspired by my black and white photography and I wanted to do black and white with a little pop of color. I was drawn to blue paint and brown canvas because I love that color combination.

To bring these Ideas to life, I used black, white, and blue acrylic paint. I used these paints on a piece of brown raw-unwaxed and unprimed-canvas.

I started with a sketch in my notebook. This was so that my ideas could come out into the real world. I then drew right onto the canvas which I nailed to a piece of plywood to give it support while I painted.  I then painted the image using long and fluid brush strokes. I did this because It made the painting more flowy and care free, this reached my goal of making her wistful. I chose to make her head pointing up because it gave her a dreamy look that I really liked. Finally, I painted black all around her. I did this to make the viewer know she is alone and to draw their attention to her face.
