Mermaid's Cove

Reflection
Mermaid’s Cove is a photoshop self-portrait of me at the dock on Cove Road. The purpose of this piece was really to get more comfortable using photoshop. I feel that I did get a bit more used to it, however long it takes. The title: “Mermaid’s Cove,” comes from the background of the piece. In the background, there are some pilings, and rocks stacked up. My brother and I, along with our neighbors, call this place Mermaid’s Cove. When it is high tide, you can swim up to the rocks, and when sitting on them, it seems as if one is a mermaid sitting on a rock at sea. This project was difficult to make because of the time that was needed to make it. I am glad that I now know how to use this resource, as it will come in handy in other projects.
I used a photograph that my friend took, and photoshop. In Photoshop, I used the ‘eye-dropper, the ‘brush stroke’ and the paint bucket fill’ tool.
I started this piece on another page in photoshop. I had completed the entire image (using the same image as I am now), but unfortunately, I had not seen that I had made it all on the same layer in Photoshop, so I knew that would not count. I tried with little success to revise that one, but found that too difficult, and made a fresh copy instead. Then I used the tools mentioned above to complete the work. I would select one area’s color, draw a stroke around the area, fill it in, and then fill in the outside lines left by the paint bucket tool. As one could imagine, this takes a very long time, especially with the hair. There were so many different shades, tints, and tones of colors, that it made me realize how different two colors of hair can be, even when they are right next to one another. There was a section of the image that showed the sky, which I cut out for time, however if I were to remake some part of it, I would add in the sky.
