Reflection

These two works were focused on the process of grief in myself. They are still in process and are my way of expressing grief, related to some of the events in my life recently. Having the pain of both heartbreak, and a friend being diagnosed with cancer recently has been part of the reason I have been feeling a lot of sadness. These pieces are focused on seeing why this sadness is there and expressing it.

I used a black sharpie, and colored pencil to make these. For both of them, I did a significant portion of the piece in sharpie before I touched it with a colored pencil. I used illustration board, which is a new "paper" for me. I really like it, and have been usingit for most other projects now. Its much more firm which helps a lot when I am burnishing with the colored pencils.

Both of these pieces were made in a hallway at Freeport High School, where I sat down and made art. I had been feeling so sad that I was finding no point in a lot of school, and art is my best way to reconnect to something that matters to me, so I chose to create. The first was started with a lot more sadness in mind, while the second one had more anger in it. I am still figuring out what they have to say. this is a project that I will continue with because it is so important to me right now to see what they have to say.
