Stars

Watercolor paper, Metalic Sharpie, Watercolor, India Ink

8" x 8"

Stars is a piece that was made for the Donate Life art competition. I made it in hopes that it would inspire others to choose to donate organs and tissue to those in need. Personally, I do not yet know which I will choose, but I am glad that I know this will be a question that is asked of me.

For this project, I used a circular piece of textured watercolor paper. I used metallic and nonmetallic colored India ink as well. The writing and the little dots on the edges were made using a metallic sharpie pen.

I made three pieces before I came to this as the final piece. I started on a large piece of paper using only watercolor paints. I used mostly warm colors and attempted at creating a butterfly. When I found that I wasn’t able to get the right shape, I colored the whole page with these warm colors and decided to draw the butterfly in sharpie on top. However, I actually wanted to keep what I had made thus far, so I moved on to a different idea. This was to weave stripes of paper together that were also watercolored and have the words be something along the lines of weaving someone’s life together. I made the stripes and wove them together, but I didn’t like the outcome, so I started over again. I finally decided to use this old project that I had made -originally intending to use it for the circle project- and just add the text over it.
