Reflection

This piece was designed to be used as a potential logo for the Civil Rights Team and to give me experience with Photoshop. The main idea was to gain this experience using a medium that I hadn’t used before. This was definitely good to learn, however rough the learning curve was. Each letter is meant to signify one of the topics that the Civil Rights Team (CRT) focuses on. The “C” is showing the disabilities sign; the “R” is showing the Black Lives Matter fist (among other uses); and the “T” is showing the pride flag, for gender/gender expression and sexual orientation. This was challenging to try and figure out how I was going to incorporate these well-known symbols into the logo.

The original design was made on a blank piece of paper, with a marker and a pencil. However, it was edited, and revised in photoshop, until it became much clearer. The tool that I used the most in photoshop was the paintbrush. At times I also used the shapes tool to create a rectangle to make the edges crisper.

There was a lot of drafting that went into this project. I started with paper designs, and I drew 4 pages of designs, just focusing on exactly what I wanted the words to look like. The “R” in “rights” was the hardest to figure out. I knew that I wanted to do a fist, but then incorporating the letter into the fist was difficult. Once I had it figured out to the best of my ability on paper, I made a final draft, took a photo, and added it to photoshop. From here I made it look cleaner, and become a true black on white design.
