For this project, I wanted to take a new approach to my inquiry.  I decided to depict a continuous narrative that illustrated the emotions I felt in a space surrounded by my family.  The perspective is almost like the reader is peeking in on my internal monologue, but I like that the message is subtle enough that it is open to interpretation.  I included a puzzle in this piece not only because my family and I worked on a puzzle over Thanksgiving, but also because I like the idea of family as a puzzle, and “me” bending over the table is wondering how she fits in.

I used oil pastels for this piece, because I felt they added a fuzzy quality that made it feel like a memory.  The bright colors reflect youth and also can be associated with emotion.

I experimented with technique for this piece, because I wanted to get a level of detail that is difficult with a medium like oil pastel.  I ended up layering some colors, and I also used my acrylic nails to scratch away at the sections to add texture and pattern.
