Surealism

Artist's Statement: For this piece I wanted to explore the concept of sexualization in teenage culture. pop culture constantly sexualizes children and puts massive pressure on people who are not yet fully grown to have sexual experiences and to put themselves in vulnerable situations.

I started this piece by coming up with the feeling I wanted to reflect on. I chose a very bright, hot, pink palette with some purple and blue mixed in to show the mixing of genders and the heteronormative. I then went into several different magazines and cut out parts of the images that caught my eye. I then glued them into paper and traced all major shapes onto my canvas. I then filled in the shapes with acrylic paint and used paint markers to add lines and letters.
