I wanted to draw some self-portraits. I've been feeling unhappy with most of my work lately, so I wanted to do something quick and silly for my independent project, so that's what I did! Self-portraits like this are very easy for me, and I draw them a lot on my notes, so I have a very specific and simple look for him- the bangs in the middle and going out to the sides by the ears, and then going in front of the neck, and the big green sweatshirt and dark blue pants.
I used an app called Sketchbook to do this, and used the pencil and watercolor brushes to color. I got a cramp in my hand because I didn't turn the opacity up high enough on the watercolor marker so I had to press super hard to get the darker color. Eventually I realized I could turn pressure opacity off and then it was fine and much easier.
I mostly just wanted to draw some silly little guys, so I did. I practiced simplified and exaggerated expressions and how the lips and mouth move the face in different ways, as well as practicing eyebrows. This project was super fun for me, I was kinda sad when it was over because I liked drawing my silly little guys so much. I've also been working more with a light gray canvas, as it makes it easier to pull out whites and also is a little easier on my eyes.
