Hypokinetic disease poster

Evidence of Work:

In this project a group of four students got to choose to make a poster about a hypokinetic disease. A hypokinetic disease is a brought on, at least in part, by insufficient movement and exercise. The reason why we are doing this is because many Americans die yearly from hypokinetic diseases, and if we learn about it now, and start the habit of exercising we can help prevent having any hypokinetic diseases. And the hypokinetic disease for this project my group and I chose was to research on obesity. Obesity is the condition of being extremely overweight. The symptoms include Breathlessness, odd sweating, back pains, joint pains, often tiredness, and being unable to do sudden physical activity. And the negative impacts it has is that it can cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, back problems and chronic kidney disease.

Obesity has really increased over the years, some fact about it:

  • It affects your cardiovascular endurance causing you to become breathless more often and makes to tire more quickly when walking. It affects your body composition by adding fat tissue and making mobility much harder even if your just walking around.
  • Some exercises that you could do that would lower your chance of getting obesity are: 30 minutes of exercise per day. Some include fast walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking.
  • The leading causes of obesity: Genetics, Genetics is a very strong component of Obesity. Eating to much of the recommended amount and Eating excessive amounts of carbohydrates. Diseases such as And hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome, and Cushing's syndrome are associated with obesity. Growing older, and pregnancy are also causes.
  • More than one-third of adults in the United States are obese. Obesity affects 1 in 6 children in the United States. Obesity is linked to more than 60 chronic diseases. Overweight children are more likely to become overweight adults. Your waist size increases your risk for diabetes.
  • And obesity also Kills 600,000 people a year, 36.5% of Americans are obese, 17% of American children are obese, and the medical cost for obese patients are 1,500 more than the average American.
  • Certain genetic syndromes are also linked to obesity, including Prader-Willi and Bardet-Biedl syndromes. This form of obesity is believed to be affected by multiple genes rather than a single gene. Common obesity may help explain why some people tend to carry more body fat than others.
  • The evidence so far suggests that genetic predisposition is not destiny-many people who carry so-called “obesity genes” do not become overweight. Rather, it seems that eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise may counteract some of the gene-related obesity risk.
  • Finally, to improve your eating habits you can try to eat a balanced meal. You do this by: Reducing sugar consumption. Reducing consumption of foods containing high amounts carbohydrates. Increasing vegetable consumption of different colors: Broccoli, lettuce, arugula, carrots, tomatoes, etc. And eating healthy protein options: Nuts, seeds, beans, lean meat, fish, and eggs.

Reflection:

I had fun doing this project, I found the topic interesting, and I liked working with my group. Two thing I was good at during this project was organization and time management which is being a conscientious learner, and mindful participation which is collaboration. The second day for the project I applied these skills. Although I do think that I could've contributed a more to the project's research and I also think that I could've applied some critical thinking and creativity to the poster, but we didn't really have enough time. But overall, I learned a lot of facts about obesity and I had fun doing this project.
