Model Heart Valve

Evidence of Work:

This project was about designing a model heart valve prototype. We had to test many different kinds of materials for the prototype and compare their young modulus to see if it was a good fit for our model before creating it. After that my group and I were able to determine that the rubber glove material was the best fit from our provided options because of it's stress and strain. When creating our model heart valve there were a couple requirements we had to fulfill. We had to make sure it was double layered, specific kinds of thickness, and we had to make sure water (which represents the blood flow), will only come through one side of the model and not the other since that is how the aortic valve truly functions. And after completing all of our research and testing we finally created our two lab write ups for this project.

Reflection:

This project was a difficult one in the sense that you got to think outside the box a little, you and your group had the freedom to create this model in any kind of way, and each group's looked very different in their own unique ways. Because of this the critical thinking part of the project was very strong. Another thing we did well was working together and getting our work done very well and efficiently. We did a relatively good job on this project and there isn't much that we could really improve on. However being a conscientious learner was rather difficult since we had to make our prototype three times before we got to the best final product and that lead to us working over time just to make sure our quality of work was good. But overall this was a well done project and I appreciated the biomedical engineering aspect of it.
