Finding a Mentor
& Area of Interest
Objectives & Due dates:
Identify the Field of Engineering that you will be exploring through your Capstone project, and identify the other team members (individual). [due 09/27]
Identify at least 3 possible mentors in the field of your choice and research their background and expertise (Individual/Group). [due 10/04]
Resume: To formally introduce yourself to your possible mentor you will create a professional resume (For more information on how to write a professional resume click here.) (individual). [First draft due 09/13, Final draft due 09/20]
Cover Letter/Letter of Intent: In the letter, you will state the purpose of your project, the type of Engineering field, why you chose that field, and how the field applies to your future goals. (individual). [First draft due 09/27, Final draft due 10/04]
Introductory email: You will compose an introductory email to your chosen mentor and send a copy to me (You will attach your cover letter and resume to this email.) (Group). [First draft due 10/11, Final draft due 10/18]
Phone call/30-second elevator pitch (individual). [First draft due 10/11, Final draft due 10/18]
Interview questions: You will create interview questions for your mentor (Group) [First draft due 10/25, Final draft due 11/01]
Interview and 1-2 page summary/transcript of your interview: You will meet with your mentor (someone currently working in the field you are researching) and conduct a brief interview. You will then transcribe your conversation (Group) [due 11/29]
