For this project we had to build musical instruments from scratch. In my group I had Marco, Lucas, and Kian. We learned about waves, what they do, and how are they created. We learned about transverse and longitudinal waves, frequency, amplitude, and wavelength. We used our knowledge to make instruments with correct measurements.
We had around two weeks to build all the instruments. we decided to build a chime, guitar and a trumpet flute. in the beginning we made blueprints and found the tones and made them to scale. We used wood for the base and neck of the guitar with fishing lines as the strings. For the chimes we used metal pipes. For the trumpet flute we used PVC pipes.
Content:
Wavelength
Distance of one wave from crest to crest
Transverse Wave
Particle motion perpendicular to the direction of the energy of wave motion.
Ionizing vs. Non-ionizing
Ionizing waves are waves that are at frequencies that are known to potentially cause damage to human DNA or cells. Non-ionizing waves are not known to damage human DNA or cells. 5g frequencies are within the non-ionizing range.
Wave Speed
How fast the wave travels (343 mps)
Longitudinal Wave
Particles compress and rarefy as the wave energy moves along (parallel particle motion).
Electromagnetic Spectrum
The range of different electromagnetic waves. The range includes radio, microwave, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-ray, and gamma.
Wave Particle Duality
Wave-particle duality is the concept of how some entities can be represented as both a particle and a wave.
Frequency
It is the number of vibration (waves) per second.
Amplitude
It is the distance from the midpoint to max of wave.
Reflection
Two things i felt like i did good on was the communication and my collaboration. I helped a lot with building of the instruments. I made sure i sued my voice to get everyone to get to do something and we all worked together to build them.
One thing i can work on is my leadership role. There would be sometimes where we were all of task. I could have got all of us to work on something to get more done but i would usually join them.
