For this essay, we were asked the question "Is the use of Native American mascots a source of pride and honor for Native Americans, or is it racist and detrimental to Native American culture?". In my essay i explained that it isn't affecting any of their history or culture and how some tribes give permission to high schools to use. They say this is a way for their culture to be spread around. I used articles we read in class to support my claim. I found evidence on how it isn't racist.
REFLECTION:
Over the period of time i had to work on this essay there were some great things that helped me and few that i could have worked on more. I think my understanding of everyone's view of the story helped me a lot with what i should help others believe is true. I had to see others opinions and thoughts even if they were against me. My communication played a role since I could state my opinion pretty well while be respectful to theirs. Overall I feel like I did everything in a respectful matter.
Now some of the things I could have worked on was the amount of time I was off task. I socialized a bit more than I should have. It would have given me more time to add more details and have a very solid statement. I found myself stuck on who's side I would agree with but when I formed my opinion, the rest came along fast. Overall with these speed bumps trying to slow me down, I feel like I did good.
